The flag of North Carolina consists of two equal sized horizontal stripes. The top stripe is red and the bottom is white. There is a blue vertical stripe on the left side of the flag with the letters N C separated by a white, five-pointed star. There is a scroll above and below the letters.

The flag features the national colors of the United States, red, white and blue. The letters N and C obviously stand for North Carolina and the star represents North Carolina’s statehood. The scrolls feature important North Carolina dates. May 20, 1775 represents the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence and Apr. 12, 1776 represents the Halifax Resolves.
