Splicing Rope

(Threading new rope using existing rope)

IMPORTANT: Make sure that the rope is secure before any cutting is made!

Lower and remove any flags attached to the rope.

The splice must be made above the top snap of the old rope and using the blackened end of the new rope in order for the preset snaps to be positioned correctly.

DO NOT PULL DOWN ON EXISTING ROPE UNTIL THE SPLICE IS MADE BETWEEN OLD AND NEW ROPE

Secure the old rope to the flag pole 12” above the top snap using electrical tape. Cut the old rope just above the top snap. Butt the blackened end of the new rope to the portion of existing rope that was above the top snap and is running up the flag pole.

DO NOT OVERLAP, KNOT OR SECURE WITH WIRE THE NEW AND OLD ROPE.

Using electrical tape and starting at 4”- 6” below the splice, wrap the electric tape 4”- 6” past splice then back down the splice and up again. This will create 3 layers of tape over splice.

Pull the old rope through the pulley until both ends of the new rope meet. With the rope secure, cut the splice where the ropes meet and tie both ends of the new rope together.
