On the left side of the flag there is a blue horizontal triangle with a red circle in the middle outlined in white. There are 17 white, five-pointed stars surrounding the circle.
The flag uses red, white and blue; the national colors of the United States. The blue triangle represents the hills and valleys and the stripes stand for roads and waterways. The white circle stands for the ‘O’ in Ohio and its red centre symbolizes a buckeye; the states nickname. The circle is surrounded by 17 stars the 13 stars clustered together represent the 13 original states of the Union. The four stars at the point of the triangle represent Ohio being the fourth state, after the original 13, to join the Union. When combined the stars signify Ohio as the 17th state to be admitted to the union of the United States.
